These young individuals, most of them hailing from Punjab and Haryana, fell victim to unscrupulous travel agents from Punjab and Delhi who deceived them with false promises of lucrative jobs in Italy. Duped of lakhs of rupees, they found themselves trapped in a harrowing ordeal in a foreign land.

The saga began in February 2023 when the youths embarked on their journey to Italy via Dubai and Egypt. However, their dreams of a better life were shattered when they were forced to land in Libya against their expectations. Stranded in Zuwara City, their plight worsened as they faced a severe lack of basic amenities, enduring hunger, thirst, and physical assaults.

Their ray of hope emerged in the form of Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who learned of their dire situation in May 2023. Sahney immediately sprang into action, contacting the Indian embassy in Tunisia to initiate the legal process for their rescue. Throughout the arduous journey to freedom, Sahney's office maintained unwavering communication with the trapped youths and their families. Their immediate concern was to extricate the youngsters from the clutches of the local mafia, a daunting task that required tireless efforts.

A Triumph of Rescue and Rehabilitation

Against all odds, the rescue efforts bore fruit, as the Indian youths were finally liberated from their nightmarish confinement in Tripoli. They could now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing they were on their way back home, thanks to the relentless endeavors of Sahney and the Indian embassy.

The Rajya Sabha member pledged to sponsor all the legal expenses and flight tickets for their journey back home.
